On April 3, Drift Protocol escalated its response by sending direct on-chain messages to four Ethereum wallets controlling approximately 129,000 ETH from the stolen funds. The protocol publicly urged the hackers to open dialogue rather than remain silent, signaling willingness to explore negotiated resolutions similar to other major crypto thefts.
The attack's impact extended far beyond Drift itself, with nearly 20 interconnected DeFi protocols suffering knock-on effects. Some protocols temporarily paused services while others restricted operations to prevent contagion. The DRIFT token plummeted 40%, and Solana's DeFi ecosystem faced broader confidence issues despite the base layer continuing to function normally. The hackers moved stolen assets from Solana to Ethereum using cross-chain infrastructure, converting large amounts to ETH and distributing them across multiple wallets to complicate tracking and recovery efforts.
